U14s secure dramatic U14 A1 Shield Final win

It was a day of mixed fortunes for the parish of Oranmore & Maree on Sunday. Earlier in the day, Oranmore Maree U14 hurlers were unfortunate to bow of the Feile Final after putting up a brave battle against a strong Turloughmore team. A dash from Kenny Park to Gort saw many familes make their way to Gort pitch where Oranmore Maree Camogie girls took on Shamrocks in the A1 Shield Final. The girls in navy and sky blue took a while to settle into this game and Shamrocks took adavantage of our nervous start to lead at half time 4 points to 1 point.
The second half told a different story, as a fired-up, more determined 15 Oranmore Maree team took to the pitch. With Freya Lennane and player of the match Hannah Doyle taking control of midfield, Oranmore Maree were able to push on. Working hard up front was the fiesty Laura Stephens who was battling hard for every ball. 10 mins into the second half an optunistic free saw Clodagh Mahon score the only goal of the day and with only minutes left on the clock, Aoibhe Monaghan took a pressure free to see Oranmore Maree secure victory with a 1.03 to 5 points win.
The work rate of everyone on the pitch can be commended. Well done to the managment team of William Burke, Barry Leenane, John Doyle, Anna Burke and Joanne Leenane. The girls received a warm welcome back in Oranmore and a lovely reception was held in Basilcio that evening. Many thanks to Fabiano, Valerie and all the staff in the Coach House Oranmore. Publish

Bank holiday Monday April 22nd saw Oranmore Maree senior team travel to St. Thomas's for round 3 of the 2019 Loughrea Hotel and Spa Senior League. A beautiful evening in Peterswell saw our girls run out easy winners on a scoreline of Oranmore / Maree 4.10 to St Thomas’s 0.10. This win was on the back of wins over Craughwell on April 7th (Oranmore Maree 2.16 Craughwell 1.09) and their opening League game in Maree pitch on March 24th where they beat Eyrecourt on a score line of 0-12 to 0-4.
The Seniors will start their championship campaign on May 5th when they play Craughwell in Gort at 1.30pm. We wish the girls the best of luck

Three Galway camogie teams were in action this weekend and our club was very luck to have representatives on all 3 grades.
Saturday morning, the Galway Minor Team had a home fixture in Gort in the 2019 Minor A Championship, but unfortunately things didn't go the right way for the Tribeswomen who short against a strong Tipperary side. Full Time score Galway 3.12 Tipperary 4.14. Oranmore Maree's senior goalie Tara Holland started between the posts and she is joined on the Minor Panel with clubmate Shannon Keady.
The Intermediate team travelled to Banaher on Saturday where they lost to Kilkenny in the Divison 2 Camogie League, GALWAY 1.05 KILKENNY 1.09. Our club members Rachael Hanniffy and Niamh Black are part of the Intermediate panel for 2019.
On Sunday, fortunes did favour the women from the West, when Galway senior camogie were crowed Littlewoods Ireland Camogie League Division 1 Champions, fending off a determined Kilkenny comeback. Full Time Galway 0-16 Kilkenny 2-8. Our two club members contributed to the Galway tally with Niamh Hanniffy putting over 2 points and Ailish O'Reilly adding a point. Congratulations to the Galway managment and the Galway Senior Camogie Panel.
